What is Fitness Pilates?
Fitness Pilates classes mix original Pilates exercises with modern updated techniques, along with gentle body conditioning to strengthen, lengthen and tone tight muscles. This is a fun, easy-to-follow session which includes a combination of slow and controlled exercises using standing and floor work exercises. These classes are suitable for all levels, ages and abilities. Classes are conducted barefoot/socks optional. Basic aerobics mats are provided.
What can Fitness Pilates do for me?
The Fitness Pilates technique involves strengthening the muscles around the centre of your body; these include your abdominal muscles, the muscles in your lower, middle and upper back, the muscles that are responsible for your posture. Pilates focuses on the deepest, supportive muscles that support and control your spine and abdominals.
How does it fit in with other Pilates programs?
It is general level incorporating basic Pilate’s techniques and exercises in a non intimidating and easy to follow way. Fitness Pilates is designed to sit alongside clinical Pilate’s sessions and other group exercise classes.
The Technique
Fitness Pilates involves breathing in and contracting your pelvic floor muscles and your abdominals at the same time. This can be quite difficult to master and will take time to practice and learn. On breathing out you increase the intensity of the contraction as you move your legs and/or arms.
The Fitness Pilates technique takes time to learn it can’t be taught in 1hour you will need to practice at home and attend at least 6 sessions before you feel comfortable with the technique.
Classes are on a pre-pay block booking (usually 6 weeks term-time only) system although 'pay-as-you-go' is accepted for the time being.
Each new course begins with basic movements and optional breathing technique, course progresses over the six weeks. Classes are usually conducted barefoot(socks okay) and basic exercise mats are provided. You may chose to bring your own pilates/yoga mat and it is advisable to bring a drink with you and wear loose fitting workout clothing.
